A Forgotten Detail

Last August my old roommates and I created a CD in memory of our five years together at college. On the CD, we talked about an event that happened in the past, and the subsequent song would be dedicated to that event. During one of my dedications, I listed several of the crazy things that we all did during our college years, and then played The Who’s “Baba O’Riley” to commemorate all those events. An example of an event was the time we walked on a frozen lake, when we were 19 years old, to keep the police from discovering the $150 of alcohol we were carrying. As I was listening to this CD in the shower this morning, I had a notion during “Baba O’Riley.”
Lately, I have been very busy with schoolwork and projects that my advisor has given me. As a result, I have been neglecting several things that I enjoy very much; my guitar, going out with friends, playing Playstation 2, writing in a journal and on this webpage, and watching NHL playoffs. To me, “Baba O’Riley” is a song of rebellion and also a song about having fun. This morning it reminded me that, even though I am very busy and have a lot of things to do, I need to take breaks and have some fun during this busy time. When I think about it, what is the worse thing that would happen if I take too many breaks? I will get a bad grade on an exam? I say, “so what!” A couple years from now, I will not care about a bad grade on a test. I will be mad if I miss out on a fun time with some friends. It is important to take breaks in life, because they are one of the things that keeps us all living.
